the family christmas photo

loving my notecard making

I am so enjoying making notecards! Thank you.! Thank you! I have quite a collection made up now and will be sending a sample of one to each of you soon. Lindsay and I have been working together on them, so that has been fun! We met Abby today for lunch at Revolutionary Soup and walked around the downtown mall for a bit. Lindsay and I went thrifting this morning and found a couple of things. Yesterday when we took Paul to the airport, we went to the Holocaust Museum and also had time to stop at Ikea before dropping him off. Speaking of recipes I am definitely going to make the Thai dish again. That was so delicious - with the tofu. Darcy, I bet Phyllis has some tried and true bread recipes. I think she has the basic whole wheat that she uses for loaves and cinnamon roles and then I know she has one for Power Muffins (which I have somewhere but have never made). Love to all of you! Mom

Pizza Dough

Hey Everyone,

Boy, has it been a slow week since we got back from Charlottesville. It's been quiet here at work -- not a lot going on with most people on vacation. Makes me wish we could have stayed longer in Charlottesville, because there was NO reason to come back, at least for my work. Jamie's been busier though.

We don't have huge plans for the weekend -- we're taking advantage of most of our friends being out of town -- therefore we're going to spend a nice quiet weekend together. Jamie has a couple of recipes that he wants to try, one being John's pizza dough recipe from the Cooking for Engineers website. When I went to print it off yesterday, the "printer-friendly" version was 14 pages! It looks a bit daunting.

I think we're going to use Granny and Papa's money to buy the Bosch machine and Grain mill from Phyllis Stanley, so we're now in the market for a good bread cookbook. Any recommendations? Our friends, Matt and Janelle, who live near Philadelphia, stayed with us Wednesday night and told us about an Amish market near their house where you can buy 55 lb. sacks of organic grains (wheats, kamut, spelt, etc.) pretty cheaply, so I'm excited to stock up.

Not to make this blog posting completely food related, but I got a book called "Real Food: What to Eat and Why" from Amazon. The author makes the case for natural food vs "synthetic" foods (i.e. using butter instead of margarine). I'll let you know how it is.

Hope you all have a very happy New Year's!

Missing you

This is my first post on our blog. Thanks again, Lindsay, for setting up the blog. I also want to thank everyone for making this such a great Christmas. I so enjoyed everyone. It never ceases to amaze me how each person adds so much to the dynamic of the family. Sherry and I were just reflecting how grateful we are for each and everyone of you. It's great having Lindsay and Paul here for a few days, but I'm already missing the rest of you.

Love you all,

Dad
