We're done!

We're done! We finished the seventh book last night at 11pm. At the risk of being redundant and saying exactly what everyone else is saying. . .it was fantastic! Such a good series! I felt the same way when it ended that I did when we finished reading The Lord of the Rings trilogy -- sad that it was over but awed at what a great story it was.

"Read it . . . you'll love it!"

Sophie..

I had a wonderful time tonight at dinner with Jonathan, Ashely and Sophie. They asked about all of you. Sophie is such a happy little girl. She was singing and laughing her way through dinner.

Phil, Susan & Elizabeth

It was so nice to see Phil, Susan and Elizabeth when they came through C'ville on their way to the Eastern Shore. They arrived yesterday after supper, so we sat on the deck and had dessert and caught up. They left this morning after Dad's wonderful Belgium waffles.

Yum

We had a wonderful evening, thanks to Abby and her friend Doug who is one of the managers at Bonefish. First he treated us to a huge, wonderful plateful of mussels in a scrumptious sauce...then we ordered...Dad and I sharing the pistachio encrusted trout and Abby having the salmon topped with feta and spinach...all delicious....and when we asked for the check...the waitress said that it was all compliments of Doug. How nice was that!

Book Review

After viewing The Painted Veil twice and loving the movie, I decided to read the book. It was very easy reading and the movie followed the book closely, except for a few events. I actually much preferred the way the movie portrayed things and thus would not particularly recommend the book if you were as moved by the movie as I was. I am ready to watch it again!

Blueberries!

It's the start of blueberry season here in Pennsylvania! Jamie and I went to a no-spray blueberry farm about an hour and a half from State College on Sunday and picked 16 quarts to freeze for smoothies in the wintertime. If we had time, we'd probably go back for more. Wish you all were here to enjoy them with us!

Book Review: Grace Eventually **

As some of you know, I've been reading Anne Lamott for years so I was excited to see her newest non-fiction work, GRACE EVENTUALLY available at the library. Thanks to many hours of waiting in lines in NYC, I plowed through it fairly quickly. If you've read her previous works, I'd rate this one not nearly as good and entertaining as Traveling Mercies but a whole lot better than Plan B. She's not as creative and I felt like this one was not as cohesive as her former work (as I was reading the acknowledgements at the end of the book, she thanks Salon Magazine for letting her use articles she had written for them as chapters in this book...it shows!) But the good news is that she's still sober, still crazy, and still trying honestly to figure everything out. I heard from a friend that she writes books as if everyone she tells stories about are already dead explaining the tell all direction her writing often takes. I woulnd't recommend this one really to a new anne lamott reader b/c it was boring for me who has read everything that happened in the last 20 years of her life but if you want to know the update....save it for a rainy day.

House for Rent

Thought you guys might be interested in this. Here's the link to our ad to rent out our house for the penn state football games this fall. So far I've gotten five interested parties for the notre dame game, but nothing for any of the others. We're hoping to get at least four of the six games, (which will help while I'm going back to school).

NYC: day two

Another great day in NYC. we started this morning down in lower manhattan and worked our way up through Chinatown, Little Italy and SoHo. We ate at the Indian Bread Co. (at liz's recommendation) which was wonderful. Then we hung out in Washington Square before heading up to Union Square. We're off to have a late dinner picnic in Central Park. Wish you all were here with us!

NYC: day one

we had a great day today. we arrived around 1pm. ventured to manhattan on the public buses and managed to find the foran's apt. grabbed a bite to eat and then spent the next several hours walking around central park. paul loved it! we want to rent bikes tomorrow and ride through the whole thing. Izzie from Grey's Anatomy was there filming a movie so we watched that for a while too. then we walked down 5th ave. to rockefellar center and then on to times square.
