Book Review: Grace Eventually **

As some of you know, I've been reading Anne Lamott for years so I was excited to see her newest non-fiction work, GRACE EVENTUALLY available at the library. Thanks to many hours of waiting in lines in NYC, I plowed through it fairly quickly. If you've read her previous works, I'd rate this one not nearly as good and entertaining as Traveling Mercies but a whole lot better than Plan B. She's not as creative and I felt like this one was not as cohesive as her former work (as I was reading the acknowledgements at the end of the book, she thanks Salon Magazine for letting her use articles she had written for them as chapters in this book...it shows!) But the good news is that she's still sober, still crazy, and still trying honestly to figure everything out. I heard from a friend that she writes books as if everyone she tells stories about are already dead explaining the tell all direction her writing often takes. I woulnd't recommend this one really to a new anne lamott reader b/c it was boring for me who has read everything that happened in the last 20 years of her life but if you want to know the update....save it for a rainy day.

Anne pretty much lost me with Plan B so I'm bummed to hear this one isn't much better. I'm just finishing "A Year of Magical Thinking" which I know most (or all) of you have read so I won't do a review but I'm starting a new book tomorrow so hopefully I will finish that soon and write it up!
